The Makuleke Contract Park has been alive with the hussle and bussle of the wilderness. Hearing the calls of the Fish Eagle resonating and watching the buffalo wallow in front of Pafuri Camp, along the Luvuvhu river has made for a beautiful April in Pafuri.

Summer has come and gone, and with so our summer visitor’s birds. As we start approaching a new season, most of the local summer visitors are getting ready for a long journey. I can hardly hear the call of the Woodland Kingfisher and the Broad-billed Roller, not to mention the Red-backed Shrike and a few others like the Cuckoos, this made me realise that the new season is coming.

For those who have been visiting Pafuri for the past few years, she has become a mirage, a rumour, a beautiful part of a story that has become a myth – the details to be shared around a fire after a hearty meal with a starry sky for company. A bit of elaboration after a few cold beers and a long day in the sun, and she becomes a legend… but still very few have seen her.
